Haco Technology Center: Quality is essential!
An essential aspect for Haco Tail Lift Parts is that the HACO own brand tail lift parts are top quality and durable. This starts with the drawing up of the product specifications and the controls according to the required standards. In our HTC Lab, the Haco parts are tested under the strictest conditions. Where necessary, the specifications are adjusted.
HACO pins and torsion springs are made of metals containing carbon. In order to increase the durability of these products they are hardened by means of surface and/or heat treatment. The hardness of the material depends on the product. Therefore each product has its own specifications. In order to control the hardness, it is measured. Depending on the hardness scale used, the measurements can be expressed in Vicker (HV), Brinell (HB) or Rockwell (Hrc).
The correct hardness is determined by the ultimate application. This can differ per application because the demands refer to a smooth surface and/or resistance to wear and/or toughness. For example: the hardness of a torsion spring determines its elasticity, if it is too much hardened the material is brittle and the torsion spring breaks.
The surface roughness is of importance on all parts of a tail lift subject to wear. The smoother the surface, the longer the life. For a cylinder tube and piston rod these values are fixed. If they are too rough the seals become worn and leaks occur. The roughness is checked using a roughness measurement.
Layer thickness measurement
The layer thickness measurement is carried out with a layer thickness meter. This instrument is used for measuring the thickness of a layer of paint and/or a coating of the casing. The piston rods are chrome plated to give better protection against weather effects. In order to determine whether the chrome coating of the piston rods of at least 30 microns has the correct thickness the layer thickness can be measured. The layer thickness determines the quality of the chrome plated surface. An important characteristic of chrome (chrome plating) is the improvement of corrosion resistance. This is important because parts such as the piston rods are exposed to aggressive elements such as moisture, salt, sand, etc.
During the reflection test, we check the reflection values of our HACO stickers. Each sticker has the original K1214 quality mark stamped on it. In this way we indicate that we comply with the German standards. The reflection values are checked by carrying out reflection measurements. Also the “correct” shade of red (the intensity) can be measured in this way and compared to the CIE colour system.
By rinsing the pump with water until it is clean and filtering the liquid, it can be assessed under a microscope how many particles remain on the filter during production. Any grit that remains could damage the pump!
Rubber hardness measurement
Various types of rubber of various hardness (ranging from very soft to very hard) are used for the different HACO parts. By conducting a hardness measurement of the rubber, the hardness of the product is measured. The hardness depends on the product. The hardness of dust covers is softer because they are flexible. The hardness of the rubber button on the foot pedal is harder. The hardness is linked to the function of the product.
